but people see a little blood in front of them and suddenly it gets too real for them. suddenly their hands are shaking because that's really when reality kicks in. feeling like now it's on them if anyone gets hurt, no matter who it is.
some people still don't get that the only way we actually get this thing done is for people like you and me to do what we do.
Doesn't change the fact that we all know what the Bouldersnakes did to that town, saw the proof they were willing to do it again, and some still decided killing them in a fight they brought to us was too far.
Not everyone is made for that kind of fight, but you're right. It doesn't mean it isn't necessary. Pretending we can all get out of this without bloodshed in a situation like Scorpion's Bend is naïve. In an ideal world, you can fight things like the Bouldersnakes without killing, but ideal worlds don't exist.
They're just gonna move on to the next town and do it all over again.
[ he knows it's a preaching to the choir kind of thing. andy's one of the few people in their group he knows understands his way of doing things. maybe it's in age, maybe it's in experience — all the same, he knows the dangers of being too idealistic. ]
just something to keep in mind about where some of the group stands. it might get uglier if we get thrown into a situation like that again. people tried to actually stopped me in the middle of the fight.
[ sometimes! preaching to the choir can be a good reminder that you are not alone in a feeling! andy knows that sense of moral superiority can be irritating, even when she also knows it isn't going to change her mind, or make her feel guilty. they'd have to go back time centuries for that. ]
I can't imagine they were successful with you.
There's not a lot that can stop me. They can argue with me as much as they want, but I'll still pull the trigger if I need to. I've been doing the jobs no one else can longer than most of them have been alive combined.
